A BT Community Champions fund donation will help Clydebank Pipe Band to keep on marching tunefully.
Norman MacPhee, an overhead engineer for Openreach in Dumbarton, has been a piper with the band for four years. He nominated the band for the £310 award to help meet its regular running costs. He said: “The money will pay for reeds for the pipers, drumsticks and new skins for the drums. “It will also help pay for hiring buses to travel to competitions. The season starts in May, so every weekend we attend different competitions around the central belt of Scotland and sometimes we have to go further afield to the likes of Inverness.” Last year was hugely successful for the band, with 17 different prizes for individuals and for the band as a whole. This year it is hoping to improve on that.
