Glen, far left, and friends get ready for their ride to Paris
|
Glen Ashby is off to Paris - the hard way. In a few months time, with a few friends, he will be cycling there from London. That’s nearly 300 miles in four days, but all, of course, in a good cause.
Glen and his friends are committed to raising at least £5,500 for the Action Medical Research charity’s Touching Tiny Lives campaign. “I’m doing this mainly because the charity supported my niece when she gave birth to her daughter prematurely 18 months ago,” said Glen, a business manager based in Chelmsford, Essex. “But I also wanted to set myself a challenge to improve my fitness. “We start at Blackheath in London and will be cycling 89 miles on the first day, 70 miles on the second, 71 on the third and finishing with a leisurely 61 miles on the final day. Our ride ends at the Eiffel Tower.” Glen and his team aim to cycle more than 2,500 miles in total as part of their training, and have been out every weekend since before Christmas. “The Action Medical Research charity is dedicated to building a better, healthier future for everyone,” said Glen. “It has played a crucial role in developing the polio vaccine in the UK, ultrasound scanning in pregnancy, hip replacement surgery and more. It’s an independent, national charity which relies totally on voluntary support. “Thanks to the generosity and commitment of supporters, so far Touching Tiny Lives has raised more £3 million, which has allowed the funding of more than 30 vital projects to help find the answers to life-threatening pregnancy complications, and to help sick and vulnerable babies.” To learn more about Glen’s ride and similar challenges, go online.
