BT consultant addresses seminar
Friday May 09th 2008.   Posted: 09:00
Delegates at a BT-sponsored business seminar in Kildare were told that, in order to survive in the global marketplace, they must be innovative in the products and services they provide - and in the way they provide them.
Simon Woodroffe, founder of restaurant chain Yo Sushi, was the keynote speaker at the Extreme Business Makeover event - part of a business transformation programme offered by Chambers Ireland in association with Accel and BT Ireland. Also among the speakers at the seminar in Kildare’s Osprey Hotel was Joe Eustace, principal consultant with convergent solutions in BT Ireland. Simon said: “Any company, regardless of size, can take simple steps in order to maximise their potential and bring their business to the next level. Key to this is being outrageously good at what we do, and telling the world about these good things in order to be noticed in the crowded marketplace. “Businesses must take risks if they are to reach their potential. Successful companies and entrepreneurs all have one thing in common - they don't succeed all the time. "They know that when trying out new ideas there is no guarantee of success. The lessons learnt during these processes, whether successful or not, will contribute to the future success of the business.” Joe said: “The phone has been with us for more than 100 years now and, while it has gone through some remarkable technology changes, its primary purpose remains the same - instant communication. Developments such as these can help transform companies’ operations.” Seán Murphy, director of policy at Chambers Ireland, said that through the adoption of smarter business practices, learning how to innovate and embracing the latest techniques and technologies, any business - large or small - can increase efficiencies, competitiveness and ultimately profit margins. Also speaking at the event, Brian McIntyre, head of research and development with Sage Ireland, said: “Today's web offers businesses new ways to attract and engage with customers. By embracing these technologies, businesses put themselves in the optimum position for success.”
