Panto players get a cash boost
Tuesday May 13th 2008.   Posted: 09:30
The Landseer Players, an Ipswich-based group of amateur actors, have just received a dramatic boost to their funds, thanks to the efforts of their treasurer Ian Moore.
Ian, a product support technician based at Adastral Park, Martlesham, and who has been a member for 28 years, got £500 for the group in the BT Community Champions scheme. “We specialise in pantomimes, and I applied for the grant to help us finance our production of Humpty Dumpty,” he said. “We hire a school hall each year to put on our performances because we have about 30 children in the Players. We get audiences of up to 300 people, but we aim to break even rather than make a profit. Any profit we do make we donate to local charities and good causes. To date, we have donated in excess of £8,000. “Our production was particularly special because one of our members has breast cancer, and we asked the audience to contribute to a cancer charity after each show. With the cast giving donations as well, we raised a total of £681 which will go to Breakthrough Breast Cancer. “I tried acting for a while, but I didn’t like it,” he added. “I just didn’t feel comfortable doing it. So now, apart from being treasurer, I do the props and scenery and work as part of the stage crew.” To find out more about the Landseer Players, visit their website.
