Brighton all set to host triathlon
Friday May 09th 2008.   Posted: 09:30
Last year’s inaugural Brighton Triathlon was a massive success with close to 1,000 athletes taking part. Triathlon England voted it the event of the year in the South East.
Now organiser Urbanrace Ltd is getting ready for the 2008 event which it anticipates will be bigger and better still. BT Wholesale senior complaints and escalations manager Iain Key, who is also a director of Urbanrace, said: “With the entire event centred on Madeira Drive on the seafront, it is easy for spectators to follow the race from start to finish. There aren’t many courses that allow that to happen in the UK. “I think the city enjoyed hosting the event and we certainly enjoyed being there. The feedback we had from competitors was tremendous.” The Brighton Triathlon 2008 will take place on Sunday 21 September. Before then, Urbanrace will hold the well-established Sussex Triathlon at Ardingly College, West Sussex, on 1 June. This is one of the most popular sprint distance events in the country, comprising a 500 metre swim, a 24 kilometre bike ride and a five kilometre run. Iain, who is based in Manchester, is hoping that several BT people will enter one or both events. By entering their EIN in the ‘Triathlon Club’ field when registering on the Urbanrace website, they can effectively claim a £5 discount on their entry fee because Urbanrace will pay their race day licence fee. Iain also needs volunteers to help marshal one or both triathlons. If you can help, please e-mail him.
