Pickles - a three-year-old white boxer in need of a new home

A charity fun day and dog show has been organised to celebrate the first anniversary of Boxer Dog Rescue Northern England.

Lesley Draper, a convergence programme delivery manager, was one of ten boxer dog lovers who met via a website and set up Boxer Dog Rescue Northern England to re-home unwanted and abandoned boxer dogs.

“We met via an online boxer dog forum which is run by one of our volunteers and set up the rescue in April last year,” said Lesley.

“Since then we have re-homed more than 50 dogs. We’re hoping the fun day and dog show will raise awareness of the rescue and raise much-needed funds to help the animals in our care.”

The fun day is being held on Sunday 25 May from 11am at Scarisbrick Village Hall, Smithy Lane, Scarisbrick, Ormskirk.

“It promises to be a really good family day out with a range of attractions and events to suit everyone,” said Lesley.

As well as a variety of stands, there will be demonstrations by a dog display team, a tug-of-way competition and a "beat the golden oldie goalie" game.

“We have also organised a fun dog show for all breeds, mutts and mongrels with ten classes ranging from most handsome dog to best six legs,” said Lesley. "Entries are £1 and you can sign up for as many of the classes as you like.”
