Have a ball for a good cause

BT Retail’s Jenny Hawksworth is celebrating seven years’ survival of breast cancer by organising a charity summer ball - and climbing mountains . . .
Jenny, general manager, calls and lines and service propositions, is planning the event at the Milton Keynes Dons new football stadium on Saturday 28 June to collect money for the charity Against Breast Cancer. And she is so determined to raise money that she is fitting the ball in between two Three Peaks Challenges - one in Yorkshire in June, taking in the peaks of Whernside, Penyghent and Ingleborough, and the UK-wide one climbing Snowdon, Scafell and Ben Nevis in July. She said: “Against Breast Cancer funds unique research into breast cancer - its aim is to find vital information to increase survival after diagnosis and ultimately to discover a vaccine against breast cancer. “Against Breast Cancer's team of researchers at University College London is leading an innovative research programme which analyses how the cancer cell, patients' natural resistance and their environment interact.” The charity is running a unique diet and lifestyle study, working with women who already have breast cancer to find ways to maximise their survival, taking place in 50 UK hospitals. The summer ball, organised in conjunction with the company President UPVC Ltd, is strictly a black tie event. “There will be a champagne reception, some fine dining, top class entertainment from the Rat Pack and Soulfish - a ten-piece band which is known nationally and internationally having played at the Golden Jubilee celebrations at Buckingham Palace and BBC proms in the park - and a charity auction thrown in,” she said. “What better reason is there to dress up than for a summer ball? And looking and feeling fantastic, having fun and raising money for charity at the same time!” Tickets are £85 per person or £850 for a table of ten. Around £20 of the ticket price will go to the charity. You can reserve your ticket by contacting Jenny on 07889 311129.
