River battle ahead for team
Tuesday May 13th 2008.   Posted: 09:00
A group of colleagues from Shrewsbury’s Town Walls will be making a bit of a splash next month - all in aid of a local charity.
The 19 people have formed a crew that will take part in the town’s dragon boat race. The event - on Sunday 29 June - is being held to raise money for the Severn Hospice. The team consists of BT directories people, along with a number of other colleagues who work in the building. Between them, they need to raise at least £1,000 in sponsorship - but they’ve set themselves the higher target of £1,500. Team member Rehanna Barre said: “We felt it would be a good team-building exercise for people from throughout the building, and also a way of raising some money. “A lot of the people taking part know someone who’s been affected by cancer so that’s the motivation for most of us.” The team, paddling a 40-foot-long boat, will compete against others - including a crew from Openreach - along 250 metres of the River Severn. Anyone who would like to sponsor the team can do so through its Just Giving website.
