Migration of all technical space
Thursday May 15th 2008.   Posted: 09:50
Plans are well under way to identify and migrate all data centres and technical spaces across BT into operational integrity (OI), part of BT Operate.
The move forms the Data Centre Space Consolidation Project (DCSCP) and the Technical Space Take On programme which is part of the group-wide Precision Transformation initiative. The aim of the project is to transfer all current technical space, or remote sites, into BT Operate Data Centre operations control, ensuring equipment is hosted in a fully managed and supported environment. To date more than 700 audits of sites and spaces have been completed successfully by the programme team. The rationale behind DCSCP is: - To reduce the risk of customer service issues where infrastructure and servers are not fully supported or managed and to allow market-facing units to concentrate on customer-facing activity such as sales, marketing and propositions.
- To enable BT Operate to introduce consistent service levels and therefore improved customer experience.
- BT will have a single truth record of its IT estate allowing better tracking and management of customer and internal equipment and associated information. This will allow BT to improve Right First Time and Trouble-2-Resolve objectives.
- The project will bring economies of scale by concentrating all the IT estate in one place. The move will reduce costs per unit for the group, as well as maximise significant cost reductions through space consolidation and reduced power usage.
David Butcher, director OI, BT Operate, said: “The programme is a key driver in improving customer experience and service stability. It will also enable the organisation to reduce costs by rationalising its technical space footprint and optimising investment in such locations.” For more information go online.
