Splunk strikes deal with BT

By being able to track data, BT customers will meet compliance laws on security

A new deal by BT will enable business customers to track all the data on their networks - fulfilling a wide range of compliance requirements.

It will allow BT to draw on the expertise of specialist North American software company Splunk to supplement BT's broad range of security solutions.

Traditionally networks are managed in so-called silos, with disparate software handling different systems - making it hard to track information.

Experts at four-year-old Splunk have addressed the problem by creating software with a search facility which allows users to index information on their networks, and create customised reports and alerts.

Splunk collects and manages logs, configurations, messages, alerts and statistics from every IT component. That data is then available to any application for fast problem solving, threat response, compliance reporting or insight into user activity and transactions.

Under the agreement with BT, Splunk will be licensed to build the new BT log management solution.

Toby Weir-Jones, vice-president of product strategy for BT business continuity, security and governance practice in North America, said: “Thanks to this collaboration with Splunk, our customers will benefit from significantly enhanced security compliance capabilities.”

Pervaiz Choudhry, director of business development at Splunk, said: “This presents an incredible opportunity to bring our combined technologies together, solving serious security management issues in data centres around the world.”
