Sharm El Sheikh is the venue for the World Economic Forum on the Middle East

Representatives from BT will be among 1,500 people from more than 55 countries taking part in this year’s World Economic Forum on the Middle East, which takes place from 18-20 May.

Brian Armstrong, BT Global Services (BTGS) general manager for the Middle East and Africa (MEA), Wael El Kabbany, BTGS sales director for the MEA, Jinna Bains, BTGS country manager for the Middle East, and Gary Shainberg, vice-president of BT Group technology and innovation support, are due to attend the event in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt.

It will be opened by the host country’s president Hosni Mubarak and US president George Bush, and will gather heads of state, and government and business leaders, alongside personalities from civil society and the media, to take part in debates and discussions around the theme: Learning from the Future.

The participants will focus on collaborative problem solving, experience sharing and scenario planning to examine alternative futures for the region and what they mean for policymakers and business leaders today.

The programme will also link the Middle East with the latest thinking on broader global issues.

Brian and Jinna will represent BT at two IT and telecoms industry programme private sessions organised by the forum on the topics: The Mobile Internet and the Middle East: Ensuring Success, and Is the Middle East Ready to be a Winner in the Knowledge Economy?

In addition, Gary will be facilitating an informal session around the theme: Gadgets Go Global: The Power of Technology to Connect, where participants will explore the new ways people connect to each other around the world.
