Major role at conference

BT Global Services speakers including chief executive François Barrault played a major part in the sixth World Investment Conference.

The WIC, held in La Baule, France, is a high-level event designed to connect US and European players, which this year had the theme: Brainpower in Europe - the driver for growth.

François had a high-profile plenary speaking role on the first day in a round-table debate on Understanding the Brain-Power Value Chain.

At the session, leading figures representing business higher education, European institutions and regional authorities reviewed the process of value creation.

The intellectual capital of businesses stems from a variety of factors involved in delivering service and products to customers. The debate identified key variables such as innovation strategies, recruitment and communications and their impact on the value chain, comparing practices with those that have made Silicon Valley a byword for creative energy.

Two other BT executives were discussion leaders in events at conference. Olivier Huart, vice president of BT France, took part in a know-how breakfast session on investing in talent, while Jean-Marc Frangos, group senior vice president technology and innovation, was involved in a workshop on innovation in services.

At the conference, BT Global Services was presented with the special investment prize in the Awards for the Best Investment in Europe. The award recognised BTGS and the Hungarian Investment and Trade Agency for setting up BT’s centre of excellence in Budapest and Debrecen.
