At their recent meeting at Exeter Rugby Club, members of the Westward management team reviewed a very successful past year - then spent the majority of the time preparing for the challenges in the year ahead.
These include rght frst time, people development, network health and quality, finance and safety. Westward is the administrative area covering the “leg” of the South West region from Taunton and Exeter in the north to Plymouth and Truro in the south. Pat Garland, Openreach general manager for Westward, headed up the event, supported by his senior management team and a number of guest presenters. A key agenda item was the roll-out of the Making It Real events that every engineer in the Westward team will be seeing over the coming months. Each year, the team identifies a manager who should receive the Westward Safety Champion Award. He or she is nominated by their colleagues for "living and breathing" the safety message. This year’s award was won by Barnstaple operations manager Martin Thornton. Pat said: “It’s fantastic that Martin’s colleagues recognise the energy he puts into managing safety not only in his own team but in support of the whole of the Taunton patch.”
