Bob drops in for lunch

South West apprentices got the chance to voice some of their issues to higher management when Openreach’s South West regional director Bob Challacombe dropped in for lunch in Exeter.

The event - part of the Apprentice Network’s Lunch with Learners programme - took place at Exbridge House. Lunch with Learners is a series of events where apprentices have the opportunity to meet in a relaxed setting some of the most influential people in BT.

And the Exeter apprentices certainly benefited from the session, as Bob agreed to personally deal with one of their concerns - communication between apprentices and senior managers.

One of the event organisers, BT Retail apprentice Hanna Hammad, commented: “Bob offered to help with the communications issues by improving contacts. He also offered the group the opportunity to go to one of his meetings to present to his team all about the apprentice scheme - of which he is a big fan - and to make themselves much more visible.”

Bob started with BT as an apprentice in 1970 and shared some of his experience with the group. Hanna added: “He had some useful advice for us all, like encouraging us to work across the organisation and build solid links with the teams we will be joining. His main message was to make maximum use of the great opportunities a BT apprenticeship has to offer.”
