More than 80 apprentices and graduates from across the business were given a special glimpse behind the scenes at the busy BT Tower.
They took part in an open day organised and run by BT Global Services graduates Phil Thomas and Ben Perkins. The idea came about when Phil, a first-year professional services graduate, was encouraged by his mentor Adam Oliver, BT's head of research for age, disability and corporate social responsibility, to use his assignment location to organise a joint event for graduates and apprentices. Phil enlisted the help of his colleagues in BT media and broadcast (M&B), and gained support from senior management to hold the open day. The event included presentations on media and broadcast by chief operations officer Ray Coppin and head of platforms and services Nick Townsend, as well as tours of the M&B production facilities, edit suites, and the top of the tower. Finally, the visitors were given the opportunity to challenge Mark Wilson-Dunn, global sales and marketing director, on the future and strategy of M&B. Rob Cross, graduate programme manager, said: “Getting so many people to hear the story and meet each other was a really fantastic idea and one that I know everyone who was there really appreciated.” Adam Oliver said Phil and Ben had exceeded his expectations for the day. “To have the chance to visit the tower is a rare thing in someone's career - to go behind the scenes and out on the roof is a once-in-a lifetime for a few.” If you are interested in finding out more about graduate placements, secondments or apprenticeships within BT media and broadcast, contact Claire Hindmarch.
