Learning about the world of work
Monday July 14th 2008.   Posted: 09:50
BT people from Adastral Park’s education team have been helping youngsters with additional needs to understand and learn more about the world of work.
At a learning event held at Trinity Park - the former Suffolk Showground - BT Group’s Pam Popay, Wendy Sycamore, Pat Hughes and Julie Gittoes showed a wide range of new technologies designed to help everyone to participate in employment. The event had two purposes - to give young people the opportunity to learn about the skills they might need if they are going into the world of work or further training. And also to teach employers about the unique skills young people may have to offer as part of the workforce for the 21st century. “New technology opens doors to people who have additional needs, and they can now become active participants at work in a way that was difficult before,” said Pat. “This event really helped these people see the opportunities that there are out there for them and can help give them the confidence to take advantage of them.” Other activities included how to dress for an interview, learning about your payslip and how to start up your own business.
