Lucy goes for gold at BT Tower

BT graduate Lucy Smith went for gold when she met Kelly Holmes at an event to celebrate BT being announced as the Official Communications Services Partner for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

"I actually got to hold her gold medal - the only time I will ever hold one, I think," said a delighted Lucy, who is a member of the graduate programme run from Adastral Park, Martlesham.

Following her entry into a prize draw, Lucy was one of only 40 BT people who were randomly selected to attend the event, held at BT Tower, where she met BT chairman Mike Rake and Sebastian Coe, chairman of the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games

"At the event, I took the opportunity to question Dame Kelly about her role as an Olympic Ambassador,” said Lucy. “I also met three aspiring athletes who currently work for BT, but who have designs on competing in the 2012 games. That gave me an insight into the long-term dedication that goes into achieving Olympic dreams.

"I really enjoyed the event. It was a fantastic opportunity to meet some of my sporting idols and to feel part of the build-up for something that will be great for BT and for London. The views from the BT Tower viewing platform were amazing too and I can't wait to visit the tower again."

  • BT is looking for people to register their interest in helping out in one of following five areas which support the values and objectives of the Olympic movement: green and environment, arts and culture, sport, youth and education or coaching and mentoring.
