Anna rallies the BT troops again

Anna Sugden

Anna Sugden relaxes at the end of last year’s fair

When the Heveningham Hall Country Fair opens its gates to visitors this weekend, a team of dedicated BT volunteers will be on hand to help things run as smoothly as possible.

The fair is one of two events run by a group of volunteers to raise funds for the Heveningham Hall Country Fair Trust, a registered charity which uses the money to support the rural community. Each year the trust donates money to community groups, organisations and individuals that live within the neighbouring parishes, as well as other organisation that support the community.

Leading light behind the BT involvement is Anna Sugden, who works in BT Design at Adastral Park, Martlesham. She has been on the organising committee for the event for more than ten years and is critical to the success of the fair.

“Anna relies heavily on her team of BT people to act as stewards on the day, and many of us have been assisting her for several years,” said finance manager Julian Gant. “Originally many of us were within Anna's team. These days we have all moved across to other lines of business, but we continue to come together to help out on the day.”

The Heveningham Hall Country Fair takes place this Sunday (6 July). Among the attractions will be Cossack trick riders, a wild west show, eagle and vulture show, sheepdog display and a regatta on the lake. There will also be displays of vintage cars, tractors and fire engines, alongside demonstration of rural skills such as thatching, weaving, spinning and wood carving, plus music, crafts, drama, dance and even helicopter rides.

“The BT team has, over the years, provided me with a lot of help and support, from getting the exhibitors in place from 6.30am, to running the coconut shy,” said Anna.

“The early morning team has helped tremendously and without them I could not have continued. Because all the volunteers have been so supportive, I feel I have to keep on going. They seem to get a lot out of the day.”

Helping Anna on the day are Adele and Stuart Wyse, Julian Gant, Emma Finney Lambert, Richard Love, Darrel Smith, Kev Driver, Jenni Lace, Steve Benns, Chris Claxton and Mary Kaye.

“Richard Carter has, for a number of years, created and looked after the website,” said Anna. “However, he is looking to take a break next year, so if anyone is interested in helping us out, please feel free to contact me.”
