Helping school celebrate 100 years
Tuesday July 08th 2008.   Posted: 09:30
Three generations of Keith Howard’s family attended the same primary school at Lowestoft in Suffolk - and now, in its centenary year, Keith has found a way to help the school pay for the celebrations.
Keith, who is a work management design development and consultancy manager based in Lowestoft, has received £285 in the BT Community Champions scheme. It will be used to help finance a summer open day for former pupils and local residents, to celebrate the school's history over the past 100 years. “We aim to put the money towards the cost of this community event and towards publishing an electronic book with photographs, interviews with former pupils and information about the school,” said Keith, who is a school governor and who has been involved with the school for 11 years. “I attended Dell Primary along with my sister, as did my grandmother and my son, so I have a very close affiliation with the school.” Keith’s work for the school involves meetings and various committees to set targets for the head teacher. He also runs and maintains the school’s website. “Working with a community project like this one gives me the opportunity to use the skills I have learnt at BT and to transfer them to the school environment,” said Keith. “The work also offers opportunities to gain skills that you may not normally have access to in your day job.” For more information about the school, visit Keith’s website.
