Francois on ‘bullish’ growth

Francois Barrault: optimistic for growth across Asia

BT Global Services chief executive Francois Barrault says he is “cool, bullish and enthusiastic” about the company’s growth across Asia - despite the slow economic climate.

In a front-page feature in Singapore-based management magazine The Edge, Francois talks about his optimism for the region and growth strategies for the future.

Francois says BT has announced 76 per cent growth in Asia but that the most interesting growth for him is what he calls “connections”.

He says: “In our business, every time a bank or firm opens branches, for example, it needs to connect them. The last two years, we’ve multiplied by 14 the number of connections: it’s a real boom.”

He also says BT Global Services is looking at Singapore as a “hub for management, innovation, development and education”. “Also, because we operate in 176 countries, it is important for us not to be in London and just read papers, but to go out and meet people, to look at things in motion so that we can make up our minds instead of just reading reports,” he says.

“To me it is also important to meet customers and see what value we can create together - the customers and us.”

Francois says the economic slowdown is “boosting” BT’s business. “I am bullish,” he says, explaining that, for the past four years, BT has been mapping the world with points of presence so that it can offer a global digital infrastructure.

Talking about BT’s recent acquisition of Singapore-based Frontline Technologies, Francois says the two companies have “the same DNA and common values like service to customers”.
