First phase almost complete

The transfer into BT Operate of all the company accommodation which houses IT server equipment is now approaching the completion of its first stage.

By the end of July, the Technical Space Take On programme, managed by BT Operate’s data centre consolidation team, will have visited and assessed more than 700 ‘technical spaces’ around the business which house IT server equipment before they are moved into operations integrity - part of BT Operate.

Team member Bal Aujla said: “This migration has come about to reduce the risk of customer service issues arising where infrastructure and servers are not fully supported or managed.

“The move allows customer-facing units to concentrate on sales, marketing and propositions, leaving BT Operate to introduce consistent service levels and so improved customer experience

“It will also help us to establish a definitive record of the company’s IT estate, allowing better tracking and management of customer and internal equipment and associated information, enabling us to better meet our right first time and trouble-to-resolve objectives.

“Economies of scale achieved by concentrating all the IT estate in one place will also help reduce unit costs, power usage, and carbon footprint.”

The programme reports into the BT Operate transformation team and the transformation leadership programme team - a cross-line-of-business governing body which ensures the appropriate support and governance is provided to group transformation programmes.

In the coming weeks the team will start taking ownership of the first of the ‘technical spaces’ transferred to BT Operate.
