Dragon team drums up charity cash

The team gets set for some serious paddling

There was no time to waste when Openreach coach Mark Eason decided to enter a team in a charity dragon boat race in Leicester.

With just two weeks to go before the event, he managed to recruit a group of willing engineers - and he and the rest of the team brought in more than £1,400 in sponsorship for local prostate cancer charity Prostaid.

What’s more, the team - Mark, Craig Taylor-Bolton, Phil Sharpe, Glenn Carr, Suky Ram, Hitts Maisuria, Shakil Esmail, Justin White, James Buckley, Jeff Webbe, Robert Duke and drummer Louise Sneath - managed to take first place in one of its races, along with second in two others, and just missed out on reaching the semi-finals.

The team was cheered on by friends, family members and work colleagues - including senior operations manager Gary Milne.

“We all had a fantastic day and everyone has promised to take part again next year,” said Mark.

“I’d like to say thanks to Gary, Bryan Foskett, Todd Lapidge and Peter Brayfield who helped with sponsorship and also to everyone who donated.”
