Edinburgh gets the Full Monty

Alistair Thomas

It might be hot in the theatre, but ladies - you can leave your hats on.

That’s the message from BT analyst Alistair Thomas, who will be stripping down to his birthday suit in a stage version of The Full Monty.

Alistair, who’s based in Edinburgh, will take to the stage for a musical rendition of the popular film, which starred Robert Carlyle, Mark Addy, William Snape, Steve Huison and Emily Woof.

He’s been cast as Harold - originally Gerald, played by Tom Wilkinson - and, as one of the main characters, forms part of the male striptease troupe.

And, although Alistair has taken on countless starring roles as part of Edinburgh amateur music society The Smycms, he’s never had to reveal so much of himself.

He said: “I’ve never done a ‘full monty’ before but I’m really looking forward to it. The other five guys are great to work with and are really up for it too.

“It’s an adult show but the final scene where we strip off is done really tastefully so no one can actually see anything - although it doesn’t leave much to the imagination.”

And, although the live version doesn’t feature the original soundtrack from the 1997 comedy, it includes a Rocky score.

It’s being staged by Tempo Music Productions and is part of The Edinburgh Festival Fringe, which is the largest arts festival in the world.

Curtains open at 8.20pm on Saturday 9 August at St Oswald’s Hall, Monteplier Park, Edinburgh and will close for the last time on Saturday 16 August.

To book tickets, call (0131) 20 3234 or contact the Fringe box office. For more information, call (0131) 336 5030.
