Barrow loads up the cash

Advisors at Barrow’s directory enquiries centre are within shouting distance of a £1,000 fundraising target, just five months after starting their campaign.
The team began running monthly events following a suggestion by advisor Karen Houston, who wanted to raise money for the local St Mary’s Hospice in memory of her father. Events held at the centre have included a St Valentine’s raffle, an Easter egg raffle, guessing games, a Grand National sweepstake, a tombola, and food and drink sales. So far, the total stands at just over £912. Centre manager Sandy Wallace said: “This has been a fantastic achievement for a stand-alone centre, with all the money being collected by people on site. “My thanks to Karen and her team for showing such dedication to a local charity and I wish Karen well as she continues to support St Mary's Hospice.”
