Ready for golfing endurance – from left, Phil, Brendan and Kevin

BT Design senior business development manager Phil Redhead is putting his golfing skills to a gruelling test this month.
Phil, together with friends Kevin Whybrew and Brendan Pinn from Lords Golf and Country Club, Black Notley, Essex, are challenging themselves to an impressive feat of golfing endurance on 31 July. Calling themselves the Lords of Essex, the trio will be playing 72 holes in one day to raise money for the Macmillan Cancer Support charity. The challenge is all the harder because the course ranges up and down the River Brain valley. The team is aiming to raise more than £1,000, and thanks to colleagues, friends and family, are well on the way to reaching their total. Phil said: "It will be no easy feat completing four rounds of golf in one day, but we’ll be spurred on knowing every single hole will be helping people living with cancer." To find out how they are doing, visit their website and feel free to donate to the cause. The dawn till dusk marathon is scheduled to start at around 5am. “We fully expect to still be playing golf 17 hours later,” said Phil. Professional golfer Nick Dougherty, who is playing at the Open golf Championship at Royal Birkdale, and who is supporting the event for the second year, adds: “We’ve all been touched by cancer in some way, either personally or through friends and family. Macmillan’s Longest Day Golf Challenge is the perfect excuse to have a fun golfing day while raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support.” The team would welcome support on the day. You can check out the challenge online. Contact Phil via e-mail for details.
