Three cheers for Hannah

A talented young BT woman has packed her special pom-poms away for another year after taking to the stage at Disneyland in Florida.

But 19-year-old Hannah Clark wasn’t trying out for the Disney parade - she was competing in the world cheerleading championships as part of Team Scotland.

The Dundee-based sales advisor was chosen from more than 70 hopefuls to train with top choreographer Linwood Nixon and form part of the Scotcheer national team.

She was hand-picked for the third time by USA-based Linwood, who trained the world champion Tiger Elite cheerleading team from New Orleans.

And, although Team Scotland didn’t lift the winning title, it finished fourth and Hannah is already training hard for next year’s contest.

Hannah began her cheerleading days on the pitch at Dundee Football Club, where she danced at half-time.

She later formed a competition squad with her fellow dancers and now hones her skills with Dundee’s ACE cheerleading troop.

And, to Hannah’s delight, the ACE girls were 2007’s UK champions and this year’s Scottish champions.

She said: “It was a great honour to try out and then be chosen for our national team. We spent ten days in Florida, which was great, and I’m already limbering up for the 2009 championships. I just hope I get the chance to compete again.”
