Women from all walks of life have been lacing up to do their bit for charity - and, true to form, BT people have never been far from the action.
Colleagues Tracy Rae and Amanda Morton were among thousands of women to cross the finish line during Race for Life - raising £740 between them. They each completed 5km in their separate home towns, helping to boost the coffers for Cancer Research UK. Billing advisor Tracy chose her own stomping ground in Glasgow to walk the race with her sister. She said: “I lost my mum to pancreatic cancer earlier this year and needed to do something positive. “I bumped into colleague Anne Pearson, a billing account support assistant, so the three of us walked together, but some of the runners had finished before we even started. “The whole day was really positive and supportive and the traffic was backed up because of it. But most of the drivers were honking their horns in appreciation. “I’d advise anyone considering taking part next year to go for it. Entire families were involved and there was absolutely no pressure to run. “The course wasn’t hilly so even gym-phobic people like me got round no problem.” BT analyst Amanda, who ran Dundee’s Camperdown Park circuit, teamed up with friend Lorraine Marr and BT colleagues Kirsty Kidd and Denise Grant at the start of the race. She said: “The race was magic. I’ve not long lost ten stone so running the 5km was a huge achievement for me. “I was so proud to cross the finish line with my little girls there to cheer me on. My running buddies and I had champagne and strawberries at the end to celebrate.”
