Time to think about mental wellbeing

Customer Service people were asked to spend time thinking about their mental wellbeing during a week of events and initiatives.  

Mind Fit Week offered advice and support to help people understand how they can prevent problems arising and advised people where they could get help for common domestic or personal issues.

The initiative aimed to de-mystify and de-stigmatise mental health issues, which one in four people experiences during their lifetime.

CS people were able to take on the spot tests to gauge stress levels, find out how to manage personal finances, get professional advice on relationship issues and speak in confidence to a personal counsellor.

Group health advisor Catherine Kilfedder said: “Young or old, black or white, male or female, able-bodied or not, it makes no difference - all of us are at risk of mental illness.

“The tools and training materials BT has developed are widely acknowledged as ground-breaking, and the support services we have available through our employee assistance programme, our occupational health service and programmes such as eNable are the envy of many.

“Despite all of this we still have some 500 BT people off work every day with a mental health problem and even more struggling to cope at work with impaired mental wellbeing.”
