Aileen makes great strides for charity

A member of BT’s local resource team has raised more than £1,000 for leading breast cancer charities by pounding the streets of Edinburgh wearing a brightly decorated bra.

Dundee-based Aileen Urban marched the 26-mile MoonWalk in memory of her beloved mum, who died of breast cancer in 2004.

Thirty-seven-year-old Aileen, from Newport on Tay, joined around 12,000 other women in the capital for the third annual event of its kind.

Setting off at midnight, her motivation was mum Chriselle, who had been a great inspiration to her.

She said: “My mum was only 59 when she died and, just a few months later, her twin sister Jennifer was diagnosed with the disease.

“Thanks to early treatment, Jennifer is now cancer free and my family and I are determined to help others affected in the same way.

“I’m grateful for the time I had with my mum and she would’ve loved to have taken part in something like this because it can help so many women beat the disease in future.

“When I play with my two sons, it really hits home that there are women younger than me with young children dealing with breast cancer right now.

“My friend and I completed the walk in less than seven hours and it was a great event to take part in - really well organised and, luckily, the weather stayed dry which made a huge difference.

“A lot of BT people very kindly and generously sponsored us, which was greatly appreciated.”
