Lindsay pleased with BT award

New adventure training equipment is on the cards for members of the 2117 (Kenfig Hill) Squadron ATC.

For thanks to Lindsay Thomas, the Bridgend-based group has been awarded £100 from the BT Community Champions scheme.

Lindsay, who works for BT Retail as a design trainer from her home, is married to the commanding officer, Barry Thomas, so has had a long involvement with the ATC and is a member of the civilian committee.

“We were pleased to get the money and it will be used to buy much-needed training equipment.

“This is a very active squadron, with children aged from 13 to 17 on the books and we take them on several trips - to camp or for gliding courses and shooting courses, and they all cost money,” Lindsay said.

The 2117 Squadron prefers to fund the trips for the youngsters and they raise funds through packing bags in supermarkets and other ventures, rather than asking parents for the full amount of money.

Lindsay said that earlier on she had not been involved in the ATC because her husband is Flight Lieutenant (volunteer reserve training), but in the last 18 months, she has participated more.

“I joined the committee 18 months ago and enjoy the role. I give about two nights a week to it and there is a monthly meeting as well.”

There are presently 30 cadets on the books and numbers are growing, following recruitment in schools and publicity through the bag-packing schemes.
