Enjoying their victory in the BT Three Peaks Fellwalking competition are Andy Titley, BT Operate undertakings and compliance manager, and Steve Jones, Openreach field manager assistant, who are both based in Stockport.
They, with colleagues Richard Hakes, BT Operate service planner, and David Falkner, general manager Openreach engagement, formed the team Summit’s Up which finished the 24-mile Yorkshire hike, which takes in the three peaks of Whernside, Ingleborough and Penyghent, in 4hrs 57mins. After winning the challenging competition in 2006, the team could only manage second place last year. “We finished in 5hrs 40mins in 2006, and 5hrs 35mins last year so we were delighted when everything clicked on the day this year and were determined to finish in under five hours,” said Andy. “There were good conditions underfoot, good weather, good preparation, good team spirit, and a real determination to finish in under five hours - and we saved the beer until after the event.” Steve found the conditions perfect for running and walking. “It was a fantastic run - the ground was bone dry so there were no peat bogs to run through,” he said.
