Growth in a transformed BT

Allen Ma talked about how BT has evolved to become a global IT services provider

BT’s transformation and its growth through acquisitions have been featured in the Thai newspaper the Bangkok Post.

The article talked about how BT has changed from a UK-based telecoms company to a global IT services provider with a full range of capabilities.

It quoted BT Asia Pacific president Allen Ma saying the company has evolved beyond telecoms - BT Global Services takes care of mission-critical business functions for customers, he said.

He went on to say, however, that BT remains strong on telecoms, citing the global multi-protocol label switching (MPLS) network and its 15,000 customer connections in the Asia Pacific region.

He also said BT will grow more than 100 per cent year on year over the next three to five years in the Asia Pacific region - with India, south east Asia and greater China being the main growth areas.

BT Global Services vice-president for mergers and acquisitions integration practice David Furniss was also quoted in the article, talking about BT’s policy of only acquiring what the company needs and nothing that would be “off-strategy”.

He talked about the centre of excellence BT has set up to enable the company to establish best practice on mergers and acquisitions - and about BT’s approach.

“Many companies concentrate on the deal but we focus on the integration,” he said. “That’s where we realise the value.”

The article also highlighted BT’s views on customer relationship management and the needs of customers in today’s competitive, global market.
