BT’s cycling record breaker Fraser Millar was thrilled to meet triple Olympic Games gold medallist and BT Ambassador for London 2012, Chris Hoy.

Following his triumphant return with Team GB from the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games earlier this week, Chris paid a visit to Alexander Graham Bell House in Edinburgh - and gave BT people an opportunity to see his clutch of gold medals from the cycling events in Beijing.

Chris struck gold in the men’s team sprint, the keirin and the individual sprint and helped Team GB to its best Olympic Games medal performance for 100 years - finishing fourth in the overall medal table.

Fraser, from BT Global Services professional technical services, has also proved to be a winner at cycling after he and BT Operate migrations specialist Micky Mallen, who also works at Alexander Graham Bell House, pedalled their way to the top spot in BT’s cycling challenge earlier his year.

They took first and second place in the one-kilometre race against the clock - with Fraser taking the winning title with a record time of one minute and four seconds, and Micky finishing just one second behind.

During his visit Chris gave an insight into how it feels to be the first British athlete in 100 years to win three gold medals at a single Olympic Games and to be Scotland’s most successful ever Olympian.

Chris said: “The past two weeks have been a life-changing experience and I would like to thank all at BT for their kind support."

Fraser said: “I’m proud to hold the BT cycling challenge record but it’s a far cry from Chris’s fantastic achievement of three gold medals. It was a privilege to meet such an accomplished athlete.”

Chris’s visit to Alexander Graham Bell House came the day after he joined Scotland’s other Olympic Games medal winners on an open-topped bus to be greeted by thousands of well-wishers lining Edinburgh’s Royal Mile.

Chris has been a BT ambassador since April this year when he helped launch BT’s London 2012 Games Partnership.

BT’s London 2012 Ambassador team comprises the very best of British sporting talent. Their role is to inspire BT’s 100,000 employees and millions of customers to become volunteers, coaches and mentors for the young British athletes aiming to compete.
