Team donates prize to charity

Big-hearted BT people in Lancaster have donated £2,500 to charity after winning a UK-wide employee competition.

The 150-strong team based at BT’s telephone exchange in Cawthorne Street donated its prize to The Christie Hospital in Manchester - one of the leading cancer treatment centres in Europe.

The centre was chosen in recognition of the care it gave to the child of one of the winning BT team members.

Alanna Duffy, the daughter of BT advisor Stella Duffy, was treated there for leukaemia for two years before her death earlier this year.

Stella said: “I was touched by my colleagues’ decision to support Christie’s. The care that Alanna received there was first class and I hope our donation will prove valuable in helping others being treated there.”

The team, which specialises in helping BT customers when they move house, won the charity award for its commitment to improving customer service.

Centre manager Richard Brankin said: “We were thrilled to win this award and are especially pleased that our efforts are going to benefit such a worthy cause, which has come to mean such a lot to us all.”
