Hopes of online soccer success

Frank Hobley has kicked off an idea to raise cash for ChildLine with an online soccer competition based on the English Premier League’s 2008-09 season.

It follows his success in running two similar rugby competitions, based on the Rugby World Cup and the Six Nations.

“By logging on to the website, you can select any team - or two or more - and try to forecast their results against all the other teams in the league, both home and away,” said Frank, who works in 21CN access planning and implementation. “The competition will run for the whole of the season, and the highest score over all 38 games will win first prize.

“I guess my main problem until now has been to make people aware of the competitions, but it’s a worthwhile cause and I would like to get as many as possible involved.”

Entry fee for one team is £3 or £5 for two teams, with 50 per cent of all entry fees going to ChildLine and 50 per cent towards the prize pool. Depending on the number of entries, other prizes will also be awarded, and there could be a further prize for Pundit of the Month.
