BT wins awards for its CSR initiatives

Two of BT’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives have won awards at this year’s International Visual Communications Association (IVCA) Clarion Awards.

The first award - in the strategic communications category - was for BT’s Community Champions programme, which recognises employee volunteers worldwide who give their time and energy for the benefits of their local community.

The second - in the interactive media category - was for the company’s Better Business Choices game, which helps users understand the dilemmas and decision making necessary to build a responsible and sustainable business.

The IVCA Clarion Awards were launched in 2003 with the aim of acknowledging best practice in communicating the importance of CSR, sustainable development, social inclusion and ethical debate.

Beth Courtier, head of BT’s charity programme, said the judges’ evaluation for the BT Community Champions programme confirmed both community and business benefits from the volunteering efforts of BT people in their own time.

“This award goes to all those employees making a difference in the communities in which they live and work,” she said.

BT CSR communications manager Alison Garner said the Better Business Choices game has proved really popular with a wide variety of users. “It’s great that it has now received formal recognition in this way,” she said.
