Openreach has hosted the first Access Network Special Interest Group forum, attracting telecoms operators from all over Western Europe.

The aim of the two-day event - held in London - was to build an understanding of each other’s networks, access policies, engineering practices, technology and other issues and to identify best practices.

Russ Simpson, Openreach access benchmarking manager, said: “The access network is crucial to customer experience and many of the issues which face Openreach are common to all operators.

“Members of Openreach chief engineer’s team decided it would be a good idea to hold an open forum to exchange views, discuss issues and build on best practices.”

Openreach chief engineer Bob Cowie said: "The forum proved extremely useful and we had great responses from everyone attending it.

“Openreach is committed to improving the access network through benchmarking and, with 12 operators from Scandinavia to the Eastern Mediterranean represented at the forum, we were able to gauge a wide range of experiences that will help shape our thinking in the future."
