Paul Excell says the event has created a platform for ongoing collaboration and open innovation

A three-day event that took place in London at the BT Tower and the innovation showcase at BT Centre - and at BT’s research and development centre at Adastral Park in Suffolk - has been helping the company to further develop its corporate social responsibility (CSR) and digital inclusion initiatives in Latin America.
The event was part of a pioneering initiative between BT, the UNICEF CSR programme and the Brazilian Bradesco Foundation to promote opportunities for partnership for digital inclusion and enable young people in Brazil to use innovative approaches to mobilise their communities and guarantee rights and opportunities for young people. The Bradesco Foundation was founded in 1956 with the purpose of providing education and professional skills to young Brazilian children, teenagers and adults. It opened its first school in 1962 and now operates 40 schools that aim to give students in deprived urban areas and very remote regions of Brazil an opportunity to escape the poverty trap. It now has more than 108,000 students. BT chief customer innovation officer Paul Excell said: “At the request of the Latin America team, BT hosted the president of the Bradesco Foundation Denise Aguiar, who is the granddaughter of the founder, and her team over three days to discuss our CSR and digital inclusion initiatives and plans. “The visit included presentations, showcase demonstrations and an opportunity to view how BT's open innovation solutions and eco-system could make the difference for students and teachers in Brazil. “The president was greatly impressed and we have created a platform for ongoing collaboration and open innovation on key themes for a better world - inclusion, sustainability and education.” Other people from BT who took part in the event included Luiz Sanches, country manager of BT Brazil, Julie Sanders from BT’s CSR team and Juan Langhi from BT in Latin America.
