Ian among most influential

Ian Livingston

Ian is one of the "up and coming" in the Evening Standard list

BT chief executive Ian Livingston and BT Health deputy managing director Jonathan Michael feature in the Evening Standard newspaper’s list of the 1,000 most influential people in London for 2008 - published this week.

Ian is listed in the “up and coming” category for most influential business people where he is described as being “closely identified with the turnaround of company fortunes led by predecessor Ben Verwaayen”.

Ian is a new entrant alongside Vodafone chief executive Vittorio Colao and GlaxoSmithKline chief executive Andrew Witty.

Jonathan features in the health category, where he is credited for presiding over the Michael inquiry this year which the paper says “exposed huge failings in the treatment of people with learning disabilities”.

The Evening Standard says its list comprises leaders and innovators, powerbrokers, tastemakers, gatekeepers, thinkers and role models.

It says the 1,000 are chosen not because of their wealth or their status. Many operate “behind the scenes or away from the media glare”. But the paper says they are the 1,000 people who are doing most to shape and change London.

Among the top 50 on the list are Prime Minister Gordon Brown, Mayor of London Boris Johnson, owner of Chelsea football club Roman Abramovich and Prince Charles in his capacity as head of The Prince’s Trust.
