Health workshops up and running
Monday November 03rd 2008.   Posted: 09:00
Informal workshops aimed at raising awareness of cancer among men are continuing this month in BT offices across the island of Ireland.
Both men and women are being invited and encouraged to go along to the Man Alive sessions which focus on health, wellbeing and, in particular, cancer awareness. Working in partnership with BT, the Ulster Cancer Foundation is running the workshops to help raise awareness of cancer risks, addressing how these can be reduced and signposting BT people to local services. According to the cancer charity, two-thirds of cancers can be prevented by simple lifestyle changes. In addition, it says, an understanding of signs and symptoms can lead to early detection and more successful treatment. The workshops, which support BT’s wider health and wellbeing programme for its people, are shifting to Dublin in the early part of November after being successfully run in Belfast last month. On Wednesday (5 November) sessions will be held in the ground floor annex at Grand Canal Plaza, while on Wednesday 12 November the venue is the ground floor boardroom within Block C in BT’s offices at Dundrum in Dublin. All sessions run from 12-1pm and 1-2pm each day. On Tuesday 18 November, the workshops head back up north again to the conference room in the Londonderry telephone exchange, while on Wednesday 19 November sessions are being held in Portadown telephone exchange (special purposes room). The final workshop in the series has been pencilled in for Enniskillen call centre’s conference room on Tuesday 25 November.
