MS charity receives a boost
Thursday November 27th 2008.   Posted: 09:00
A charity which cares for multiple sclerosis (MS) sufferers in the north west of Northern Ireland has been given a helping hand by BT.
Wes Boyd, a field operations skills development officer based in Londonderry, successfully applied for a grant for the Foyle branch of The MS Society through the BT Community Champions scheme. The scheme recognises and encourages the extra-curricular work of BT people in their community and provides a valuable source of funding to the charity sector. Wes, who has worked for BT for 34 years, has been involved with the Derry-based charity for more than 20 years. He explained: “I do a bit of fundraising and drive members to various functions. The Foyle branch of The MS Society provides advice and help for people with MS and funds activities like workshops and yoga and so on. “I do a lot of general stuff for the branch but prefer to work behind the scenes helping in any way that I can. I have been involved in fundraising since my wife was diagnosed as a sufferer more than 20 years ago.” Wes said the grant from BT - for £155 - will help to provide transport to functions and help encourage sufferers to join in activities and get out and meet new friends.
