Environmental development group heads for California

The “green” headquarters of BT Americas in California is hosting a two-day meeting this week of an influential global environmental think tank.

BT is a member of the World Resources Institute's green power market development group. The group’s members are drawn from major companies - and its aim is to go beyond research to create practical ways to protect the earth and improve people's lives.

BT Americas head of corporate responsibility Kevin Moss said: “Hosting this prestigious meeting for the USA and California affiliates of the development group is a real achievement for BT.

“It is also a coup for our renewable energy powered headquarters at El Segundo - a remarkable and innovative building that is viewed as one of the biggest solar energy generation projects in southern California.”

The agenda for the meeting includes two sessions led by BT. These provide for delegates to tour the building to view progress on the solar installation - plus a working session with Peter Diamandis, founder of the educational non-profitmaking X Prize Foundation for projects that benefit humanity.

Kevin added that joining him and BT Americas senior director Jon Reiter at the two-day event are representatives of many of BT’s customers and partners.

“These include software company Apple, online auctioneers eBay, search engine Google and health care company Johnson & Johnson,” he said. “We are also welcoming people from office supplies group Staples, aluminium producer Alcoa, car manufacturer General Motors and chemicals groups Dupont and Dow.”
