Seb Josse is still well in contention in the Vendee Globe race
|
Seb Josse in his BT-sponsored yacht retained his place among the leaders in the Vendee Globe solo round-the-world race today (Friday) as they neared the Canary Islands.
Seb was in second place, just three miles ahead of Jean Le Cam. But the race leader, Loick Peyron on Gitany Eighty, has managed to extend his lead over Seb to 30 miles, sailing at nearly two knots faster. The leaders passed Madeira yesterday and today they are keeping well to the west of the Canaries to ensure they stay with favourable winds Seb, in his BT Imoca 60 boat, was among 30 competitors who set off last Sunday from Les Sables d'Olonne on the west coast of France in one of the world’s toughest sailing events. The race is due to finish there in three months’ time. Seb has so far managed to steer clear of the trouble that has befallen many of his rival sailors. English skipper Alex Thomson, who was forced to return to port after his Hugo Boss yacht was hit by 50-knot winds, has been forced to abandon the race because repairs will take too long to complete. French skippers Yannick Bestaven, Marc Thiercelin and Kito de Pavant have also quit the race after losing their masts in rough seas. You can follow Seb’s progress in the race and send him an e-mail online.
