Seb Josse remains among the race leaders
|
Seb Josse, skipper of the BT Imoca 60 yacht, remained well in contention in the Vendee Globe solo round-the-world race today (Monday) - with less than ten miles separating the three leading boats.
Jean Le Cam is now the new leader of the fleet, 1.6 miles ahead of Seb and 9.3 miles ahead of former leader Loick Peyron. Seb and Jean Cam took a more easterly route through the Cape Verde Islands where the pressure was better, whilst Loick passed to the west and lost time and distance through being forced to manoeuvre his yacht a lot more than his rivals. Seb was among 30 competitors who set off eight days ago from Les Sables d'Olonne on the west coast of France in one of the world’s toughest sailing events. The boats are sailing towards the three great capes, marking the southern tips of the African continent, Australia and America, and returning three months later to Les Sables d'Olonne. In a weekend phone message back to his race headquarters, Seb said: “The important thing is to be in the right pack, the actual positioning is less an issue. “It's very satisfying to have sailed well, to have taken the right options. Then again, it's not like we have been the first ones to enter the Southern Ocean. The Doldrums still have to be crossed and that can obliterate our lead." You can follow Seb’s progress in the race and send him an e-mail online.
