Survey supports BT approach

Improved productivity and collaboration are driving the move to a single platform

Most companies appear to be taking a step-by-step approach to moving communications services to one platform, according to an online survey of IT professionals by BT.

The research by BT’s North American operation found a third of companies seek to introduce one new application at a time - whether it’s desktop videoconferencing or voice services.

However, more than a quarter of companies - typically those with more than 10,000 employees - plan to adopt several central applications simultaneously.

And the survey found most companies looking to move communications to a single platform - known as unified communication and collaboration (UCC) - will turn to vendors for help, particularly those that have the ability to integrate products from several vendors.

Almost half of respondents (49 per cent) said they would turn to voice and data network service providers such as BT for advice.

The most important benefits driving investment are seen as increased collaboration with other groups or departments and improved productivity.

Calculating the return on investing in UCC and security issues are the main issues IT professionals encounter - or expect to encounter - when following through their UCC strategies.

BT Americas president Michael Boustridge said: “These results confirm BT’s approach to helping customers individually chart a road map towards UCC that makes the most sense for their organisation.

“With BT’s scalable solutions, we help customers start implementing UCC on a small scale and then increase the integration into their internet protocol and IT environments on a global scale.”
