Key trends and ways of generating revenue from service innovations were the subject of an international industry summit co-hosted by BT.
Top technology executives from companies including Facebook, ITV, Sony, 02, Telecom Italia and Home Box Office attended the three-day summit. The event - known as the Hewlett Packard (HP) Chief Technology Office Summit - is held twice a year in locations around the world. The latest summit in the UK was co-hosted by BT Innovate chief executive Matt Bross and Brian Levy, vice-president and chief technology officer of communications media and entertainment worldwide at HP. Matt said: “The idea is to promote discussions and share experiences between peers in a non-competitive environment. “This summit concentrated on the challenges of creating successful service innovations, such as internet services on mobile devices.” One day was spent at Adastral Park in Suffolk, where delegates were given a taste of the latest innovations from both BT and HP. They included Debatescape from BT - a web tool which finds and alerts companies to important new customer web conversations taking place about their products or services. This allows organisations to monitor the conversations and - if they are providing misleading information - to respond or correct it before the material is indexed and permanently posted by Google. Delegates also had dinner with academics at Pembroke College - part of Cambridge University, with which BT has a strong relationship. In the last five years, BT, Pembroke College and other parts of the university have worked together on a number of research collaborations and consultancy projects.
