A BT project on the shores of the Red Sea has won a top accolade in the Telecom World Middle East Awards.

BT won the best managed services category for a next generation networks project in the tourist resort of Port Ghalib.

The project was recognised for a number of its features including its flexibility, reliability and levels of service.

Customer satisfaction ratings, cost savings and other business benefits were also taken into account by the judges.

BT signed the initial Port Ghalib contract with EMAK Information Systems - a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Kuwaiti-based Al-Kharafi Group - in December last year.

BT is providing innovation and global knowledge to support a technologically-advanced and fully-interconnected “smart city” comprising 22 hotels, an international conference centre, offices, shopping malls, a marina, a golf course and more than 9,000 villas and apartments.

Brian Armstrong, BT vice-president for the Middle East and Africa, said: “This award serves as further proof of the excellent service that has already been delivered and provides us with new inspiration to deliver on the smart cities concept - not only in Port Ghalib but in the region as a whole.”
