Seb Josse is holding on to second place in the Vendee Globe race
|
A bumpy ride lies ahead for Seb Josse in his BT-sponsored yacht as the leaders in the Vendee Globe solo round-the-world race tackle high seas in the South Atlantic.
Seb is holding on to second place, 28 miles behind the leader Loick Peyron in Gitana Eighty and 11 miles ahead of Jean-Pierre Dick aboard Paprec-Virbac 2 in third place. Conditions on board for Seb will be uncomfortable as he slams into lumpy seas, with conditions wet on deck and hot down below. But he has the comfort of knowing that his closest rivals are experiencing exactly the same environment. Seb emerged from the Doldrums unscathed and he expects the current conditions to be in place for the next four days as he looks ahead to the next obstacle on the Vendee Globe race course - the St Helena high-pressure zone. Seb joked with his shore team that he had “no sacrifice for Neptune” - saying he had already given him too much. There is relatively little distance between the boats in the leading pack - less than 100 miles separates the top nine yachts as they all push south in the south-easterly Trade Winds, averaging 11-12 knots of boat speed and covering around 290-300 miles in 24 hours. Tenth-placed Jeremie Beyou on Delta Dore is diverting to Salvador de Bahia in Brazil for an unaided stop to assess damage to his mast as he became the latest casualty of one of the world’s toughest sailing events. You can follow Seb’s progress in the race and send him an e-mail online.
