Indian travel ban update

Soldier at Taj Mahal hotel

Hostages are still being held at the Taj Mahal hotel in Mumbai

BT employees who have been in India on business are being advised that they can make arrangements to travel home as long as they do not travel through Mumbai.

Following the terrorist attacks there, BT issued a ban on travel to India for all BT employees. The company says the ban remains in place but will be reviewed daily. It expects to be able to lift it within 48 hours.

BT security people are personally contacting any employees who are planning to travel to India on business over the next few days.

The company says use of the American Express travel service is mandatory for all employees travelling on BT business. By using this service, BT has an immediate record of people’s travel plans and can take steps to track them down if there is an emergency situation in any country around the world.

Any BT people planning to travel to India - who have not booked via American Express - should contact the security team on 0800 321999 (in the UK) or +44 1908 64110 (outside the UK).

All permanent employees and contractors in Mumbai have been accounted for and there has been no damage to any BT buildings.

There is also a travel ban in place for BT employees travelling to Bangkok in Thailand on business because of the protests taking place in the airports there.

  • Information about travel restrictions for BT travellers is available on the BT security website.
