Boosting airports spend

Robert Cook was among international speakers at the Passenger Terminal Expo 2008 conference

As airports struggle to become competitive, state-of-the-art technology is crucial to increasing airport retail spending, according to BT aviation industry consultant Robert Cook.

Speaking at the Passenger Terminal Expo 2008 in Abu Dhabi, Robert said: “To accommodate expansion and growing airport traffic - particularly here in the Middle East - strategies should focus on retail revenue generation and customer service using proven technology with top-level capabilities.”

He told the audience that a number of key processes are required to gain the necessary insight into customer needs and demands in retail spending. These include attraction, creation and management of retail offers, dialogue with customers, and retention of customers by ensuring the customer experience is managed well.

“If harnessed effectively, customer insight can provide an unmatched ability to serve customers better,” he said. “The payoff is increased airport customer retail spending.”

Robert was one of a number of international speakers at the event, drawn from the world’s leading airport operators, airlines, architectural companies and consultancies.

The annual three-day conference and exhibition is dedicated to worldwide airport terminal design, development, security and technologies. It aims to bring together senior airport and airline executives, chief executives, key decision makers, suppliers and buyers from all over the world.
